Mechanical Engineering Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMASH RAN) - is an academic institute, established since 1938, located in Moscow, that is engaged both in R & D and in commercial application of its developments in the following fields: structural materials science, advanced structure modelling; theoretical and applied acoustics, vibration suppression and mitigation; friction, wear and tear, lubrication, tribology; probabilistic risk analysis of machines and of critical infrastructure engineering facilities; machine strength, reliability, service life extension, survivability and safety; mechanics of machines and control over machines, CAD/CAM, theory of machines and mechanisms (TMM), mechatronics; vibrational biomechanics; vibrational acoustics of machines; wave mechanics of machines, development of novel technological solutions based on wave technology with application in petrocamical, oil-refining, medical, food and civil engineering industries. At present Academician, Prof., Dr. (Engineering) Rivner F. Ganiev is the Director of IMASH RAN.
IMASH's highly qualified research staff (consists actually of more than 600 collaborators) solves fundamental research and applied problems of mechanical engineering. The institute has 7 research departments, as well as an exhibition department of scientifc and engineering information aimed at promotion and dissemination of significant achievements of IMASH' s among the interested parties at hi-tech exhibitions and innovative forums. The institute has its own exposition hall at its territory. There are 2 subsidiaries of IMASH RAN – 1 research center and 1 research institute; the center is located in Moscow too and the research institute – in Nizhny Novgorod on the Volga River (Research center for nonlinear wave mechanics and technology; Nizhny Novgorod Subsidiary of IMASH RAN).
For more than 70 years of IMASH' s history many bright professionals, talented scientists, Academicians, Professors, Doctors, Associate Members of the USSR Academy of Sciences and later, the Russian Academy of Sciences have worked at IMASH' s research labs, among them should be noted:
